COLD FUSION
Student Project
Genre: First Person Shooter
Major responsibilities: Story, Gui Design, Level Design

Cold Fusion aspires to be a modern First Person Shooter in the likes of games like the Battlefield series. When writing the story, we wanted to create something that felt genuine and would adhere to the settings (and tropes) of a ”Triple-A” First Person Shooter, while always keeping the nine week deadline in mind. Also wanting to create something relatively unique - yet close to home, so we placed it in the city of Kiruna, northern Sweden.

STORY

In 2015, the European Union has grown considerably and after the current disaster in Japan, the European Union sanctions a small research-center in Sweden to create a Cold Fusion reactor. Hearing of the success, the United States contact a Norwegian mercenary group through NATO and order them to steal the reactor plans from Sweden. They move swiftly and overtake the facility and it is up to Swedish Secret agent - Carl Enqvist, to go in and stop them.

ENVIRONMENT AND LEVEL DESIGN

Beyond writing the story I was tasked with designing and building the first level, whilst modelling the environment. This gave me a chance to recreate and model a snowy environment with a very Swedish looking officebuilding, inspired by an actual research facility in Kiruna called "Esrange".
The process of the Level design was brought forth by me and Emil Johansson who designed and blocked out the second level, the basement. We looked at games like Metal Gear Solid, Call of Duty, Battlefield and Thief for creating a directed yet interesting experience.
