RELEASE DATE: JANUARY 11th 2019
DEVELOPER: ACKE HALLGREN
I've worked on What Never Was for the past couple of years in my spare time. It is made in UE4 using only visual scripting. It is a solo project made by me, originally in part to maintain my 3D-skills and to learn visual scripting but mostly to get to tell a story. What Never Was is a short, story-driven first-person game focused on exploration and puzzle-solving. It is inspired by the gameplay styles of Myst and classic point-and-click games, the aura of Indiana Jones and The Longest Journey and lends themes from nordic mythology and H.P. Lovecraft.
Sometime in the late 2000s, Howard James Wright - an old but kind man - perishes. Leaving behind him many adventures, relics he's collected over the years as well as books authored, he is also leaving Sarah, his granddaughter behind. Having to shoulder the arduous task of clearing out her grandfathers attic, she is soon to find that not everything about her grandfathers attic is what it seems.
