PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Embark on a mysterious adventure with Kay and Nix to explore the Khepi system and learn what it takes to be a true leader. Team up with legendary pirate Hondo Ohnaka and face off against Stinger Tash and her Rokana Raiders as you infiltrate the Khepi Tomb to uncover the secrets and hidden treasures it holds.
MY RESPONSIBILITES
Assisting in conceptualizing, pitching and designing the holistic vision of the DLC
Working closely with creative directors and stakeholders to ensure the and support the vision of the DLC
Guiding the Quest team, reviewing their work and providing feedback while doing my best to foster and support their creative ambition and ideas
Collaborating closely with Lead Environment Artist Jeremy Estrellado) and Lead Level Designer (Viacheslav Novikov) to ensure that the multi-disciplined Quest Cells operated efficiently
Designing, reviewing and setting new standards for the Quest Design documentation and Quest diagrams
Ensuring the documentation is easily parsed and understandable by the full team
Designing and implementing high level "in-between" quest-moments needed for progression and thematic coherency
Onboarding, mentoring and providing guidelines for newer Quest Designers and various members of the team
Building quest design documents, templates, tools and technical solutions (often together with game designers and gameplay programmers) to improve and standardize our workflow from both a tech and usability perspective
Developing the Quest Team culture and guidelines
Taking on the role of Lead Quest Designer for post-release and DLC
ABOUT MY WORK
STAR WARS OUTLAWS: A PIRATE'S FORTUNE - Reveal Trailer
Shortly before the release of Star Wars: Outlaws, I was given the opportunity to transition into a Lead Quest Designer position, and work along side directors and other leads to conceptualize and bring the DLC from idea to shipped product, whilst juggling the work and delegation of work relating to a major push for features and quality-of-life improvements to the core game-experience after release.
I had the pleasure of working alongside the absolutely amazing team of Quest Designers that carried over from the core game - Maximilien Lutz and Sam Luckhardt - but I also had the pleasure of welcoming and mentoring two new Quest Designers - Ronnie Tallon and Quentin Beaud who went from Level Design, and Quality Assurance respectively, to fully fledged Quest Designers, spearheading their own main quests.
The whole team focused on ensuring that the player had more freedom in their approach to situations for this DLC, clearest shown in the quests taking place in the pirate-infested Khepi Tomb, in which we attempted a much more hub-based quest design philosophy with multiple paths and ways of engaging your objectives, and meaningful missable content.
A PIRATE'S FORTUNE heavily features Star Wars fan-favorite Hondo Ohnaka
The DLC was received well among fans, with the new quest approaches and gameplay improvements being praised, alongside the very large presence of fan-favorite, Hondo Ohnaka.
Becoming a lead was a daunting task, especially with the parallel work of live-service updates and having to also be hands-on for some minor quests for the DLC, but thanks to an amazing team that hit the ground running, we shipped a DLC that I am extremely proud of and that expands how Star Wars Outlaws plays.
